RW Abbey: First Orchard (#420)

Owned by AbbeyBuilder

You stand in a sort of verdant sanctuary where the sun is filtered through leaves and thus comes out to be a much softer light, one that's a little more manageable. At least, more manageable than the comparatively harsh light of the more open entryway and a pond area almost completely devoid of large, shade-giving plants that this orchard has in careless abundance. A soft covering of moss and grass finds itself beneath the trees, only serving to add to the quiet comfort of the whole scene.

The stately flora has come alive with youthful blossoms. Flowers of all shades of pastel line the trees, bushes, and ground. Poking around the pink and yellow petals, some fruit has begun to form, peppering the orchard with green apricots and plums and unripe pears and peaches. The air is full of pollen that tickles the nose and dirties clean habits. After a rain, rivulets of water trickle around tree trunks, irrigating the flore before draining into the pond.

RW Abbey: First Orchard Krisha smiles a little and then frowns as she hears a sob, turning to see a lone dibbun "What is the matter..."The dibbun reachs up and frowns "They is alls making de rooom sticky with honey and leaves and...and theys trying to hide the brocclii.."The badger mother sighs and excuses herself, she best go tend to the dibbuns and sounds like save a sidedish that was for dinner. Spruce enters from the orchard. Oct 23, 2019 at 3:54 p.m.
Krisha is taking a break, she needs one as she has been on Abbot and Dibbun duty a lot lately. She sits under the tree for now, a little time off is good Oct 23, 2019 at 4:10 p.m.
While many leafs have fallen, some trees remain coated in their reds and yellows, and up in a branch of the plum tree the badger sits under rests a squirrel enjoying an armful of, well, plums. Spruce pops another one in his mouth, spitting out the core below a few moments latter, chewing. Oct 23, 2019 at 4:15 p.m.
Krisha blinks and looks up at the squirrel and frowns a litle "Did you get into the plums or ..hmmms guessing got the vesy high up bit they missed" Oct 23, 2019 at 4:16 p.m.
Spruce, about to put a plum in his mouth, stops, haven been caught. "Er, yes." He calls as he looks down at Krisha sheepishly. "There's been a lot of fruit up higher that's been missed, y'know." Grinning cheekily, the squirrel adds, "And, well, can't let them go to waste, now, can I?" Oct 23, 2019 at 4:20 p.m.
Krisha chuckles "I do see some, most was gottwn...hmmms may be enough left for a pie or two,,,maybe you can get the rest" Oct 23, 2019 at 4:25 p.m.
"Maybe." The squirrel replies through a mouthful of plum. Swallowing, Spruce starts to climb down with his free arm, though one fruit falls. "Whoops!" He mutters, even as he touches down on the ground. Oct 23, 2019 at 4:39 p.m.
Krisha smiles "Its ok..cant always have a good day..some are stressful and others are not thats why its important to rest" Oct 23, 2019 at 4:40 p.m.
Spruce tilts his head to give her what he thinks is a knowing look. "Aye, rest is important, it is, and I daresay I've never gotten enough, eh?" Oct 23, 2019 at 4:42 p.m.
Krisha shurgs "It has been busy doing tow main jobs, but have gotten some help..Sister Ginnny is with the dibbuns right now" Oct 23, 2019 at 4:44 p.m.
Looking very serious, Spruce nods gravely. "That poor Sister." He plops himself down against the tree next to Krisha, plums still held in his arms. Taking one and eating, he glances over at the badger mother. "Say, this is purely theoretical, but... How often are dibbun successful in snatching pies and other stuff from the kitchens? /Purely/ theoretical of course." The squirrel gives a wry grin. Oct 23, 2019 at 4:51 p.m.
Krisha says, "Not very and do not try it, you can get in real trouble if Friar Lacota caught you, he may already be grumpy seeing as someone destoryed or alsmost did always, one of the trays."" Oct 23, 2019 at 5:04 p.m.
"Oh, I'm /not/ gonna try it!" Spruce says with a wink, "I'm not that brave, not at all." He takes a bite out of the last plum he has. "Friar Lacota's that ol'squirrel with the pots, right? I'm not willing to cross him myself, at least. I'm not that curious to find out what he'd do if I were to, well, y'know..." Oct 23, 2019 at 5:11 p.m.
Krisha says, "Well he i in charge of the kitchens and he is old I suppose but not too old" Oct 23, 2019 at 5:20 p.m.
(A smirk on his face, Spcue spits out the last plum-pit. "Aye, well, nearly every beast looks old to me, 'cept for the babes and those my age.") Oct 23, 2019 at 5:22 p.m.
Krisha nods as she yawns a little, she seems tried now then last couple weeks has been fairly bsy Oct 23, 2019 at 5:30 p.m.
Resting his head on his arms against the trunk, Spruce says, "Well, I hope the weather stays at least a little bit warm like this for a while yet." Oct 23, 2019 at 5:36 p.m.

Benar skips off to the Abbey Pond. May 16, 2020 at 10:29 a.m.
Angela has a lot of things to be worrying about right now. The Dibbuns were kidnapped by wicked creatures. Her granddaughter is off trying to rescue them. Her great-granddaughter has been given the responsibility of Gatekeeper, which the old mouse isn't sure she's ready for. She also has been upset since Tuesday -- the Healer suspects it's because Lily killed someone else for the first time. The old mouse is also worrying about the safety of the Abbey and the sanity of her friend, the Abbot. And all her patients in the Infirmary, too. Which brings Angela to her latest worry: the newly arrived haremaid, Sola. The elderly Healer is sneaking her way around outside, looking for the hare without being spotted. This is something the mouse is actually quite good at. Jun 6, 2020 at 9:06 p.m.
Sola is a bit of an odd one out among the group of hares. She's got more scars than most of them (Possibly with the exception of Monty but she might still win that contest by being half blind) but she's no fighter. Neither is she a healer though she followed instructions to help at least during the battle. Refusing to go near any injured vermin species including the Ferravale beasts didn't win her any friends though and now she was helping with the cleaning instead. She isn't too hard to find. She has gathered a couple of old rugs and hung them up between the trees so she can beat the dust out of them. She mutters to herself a lot but it's even worse and almost constant when she's on her own. Jun 6, 2020 at 9:17 p.m.
Oh, there she is! Angela follows the mumbles until she's hiding behind a peach tree, watching the haremaid and listening closely. The old Healer takes special interest in insanity, and she suspects there's some of that in the hare. She wishes the hare could have continued to help in the Infirmary -- even beasts who can follow directions are valued. Jun 6, 2020 at 9:31 p.m.
Sola doesn't look relaxed. Her eye is focused on the job but her ear and a half are constantly moving and on the alert, her nose twitches and she looks tense. The slightest breeze rustling the trees makes her ears move and perhaps that's why they can't focus on the mouse trying to sneak up on her. It helps that the healer is hiding on her blind side though "But they can't come back or the would have but if they can then they will but they can't but they're there but I won't look, I won't and they'll make but I won't" go the mutterings. There's definitely some crazy going on there. Jun 6, 2020 at 9:41 p.m.
Angela prides herself with her silent tread. However, she's not so great at hiding behind trees that are awkwardly shaped. Peaches are strange plants. After listening for a few minutes, the mouse steps out from behind the tree. "I think y'should hit those rugs 'arder, if ye can." Because taking aggression out on innocent inanimate objects is helpful for curing mental illnesses. Jun 6, 2020 at 9:57 p.m.
Sola freezes, breathing in sharply as she's surprised. She doesn't move but her eye looks around wildly, just not in Angela's direction because when you think things are hiding behind every tree they're all a possibility for mysterious voices. Nothing matches the voice so she finally slowly turns her head until she can see the mouse. She stops. Staring for longer than normal until she finally, in a polite, calm but firm voice says "I am hitting them firmly enough for the task" she sounds calm but it's only a second afterwards her ears are back to twitching. Jun 6, 2020 at 10:08 p.m.
Nodding, Angela sits down on an overturned wheelbarrow that's basically left out here for this purpose. "Aye, f'r the task, yes. But not for your agitation." She rests her staff across her lap, the poisoned crystal at the top glinting in the filtered sunlight. "You seem worried. We're relatively safe here in Redwall, despite what y'may have seen and heard." Jun 6, 2020 at 10:12 p.m.
Sola takes another deep breath but slower this time "I do not need to hit things like a barbarian. I am cleaning. Nothing more" her eye flicks around the trees cautiously before it fixes once more on Angela at the idea the abbey is safe. Her lips purse, she doesn't believe it "Yes, your badger said that too...between kidnappers, rat hordes and numerous vermin staying within the walls I'm afraid I can't believe it. We are always running from one danger to another, it's no different here" Jun 6, 2020 at 10:26 p.m.
Angela cocks an eyebrow. "The vermin we're allowing t'stay in our walls 'ave proven themselves t'be trustworthy allies. We take our safety very seriously. As for the kidnappers....that was an unusual occurrence. We're usually pretty safe." I mean, except for how every year somebody tries to conquer them. But the hare doesn't need to know that. "An' how does smackin' a rug as hard as y'can to get all yer anger out bein' a barbarian? Pray explain that t'me." Jun 6, 2020 at 10:34 p.m.
Sola gives her that same disbelieving, disapproving look again when she talks about the vermin but it's not an argument that she chooses to start again so she doesn't say anything about that. She's half blind, scarred, had half an ear ripped off and is missing fingers, with the exception of the ear everything is very neat, purposeful and unlikely to have been caused by a quick slash in a battle. It's not hard to guess where the dislike of vermin comes from. "I am not angry" she merely replies, pausing to beat the rug a little harder a couple of times before she adds "And I am not crazy" because she knows she is but she's trying to pretend otherwise which is why she's keeping the muttering to herself now. Jun 6, 2020 at 10:47 p.m.
Angela has been looking at those scars, all right. And this conversation is giving her some clues as to how those scars came to be. But instead of commenting on that, or on the hare being angry (which the harder hits on the rug are suggesting she is), she instead pounces on the last statement. "Crazy? I didn't say anythin' about you bein' crazy, hon. What makes y'mention it?" Jun 6, 2020 at 10:49 p.m.
Sola wasn't angry until she started talking to the mouse, she's normally too busy being afraid to get around to anger "Because that's what they always think. It's not my fault that they're always there, how am I supposed to handle that?" she starts beating the rug again in an oddly calm way as she breaks in to a full blown rant "Now I know they're not there but they are. I can't just believe them away when I see them, I can't stop seeing them and now they can come back and they will though they can't" Jun 6, 2020 at 11:05 p.m.
Angela just listens, quite calm, herself. Crazy people don't seem to bother her too much. "I don't care whot other beasts think" which is kind of obvious from the way she treats people. "But who is this 'they' you're talking 'bout, hon? What do y'mean by them coming back when they can't? I'd like t'understand." She is speaking in a gentle, inquisitive tone. She is making absolutely sure that she doesn't sound accusatory or argumentative (a feat within itself). Jun 6, 2020 at 11:19 p.m.
Sola finds it hard to stop once she's started, she's not thinking straight lately, all the travelling and vermin has her mind back to the days when she first escaped "Them, them, the..." she stops to stare at the trees, her ear perked. The calm is gone. Now she's paying attention to all the things she imagines to be lurking out there she's frozen in place, just her eye moving. She's breathing fast but so quietly like she's trying to go unnoticed "They're dead" she whispers very very quietly. Jun 6, 2020 at 11:29 p.m.
Whoo, boy. Angela frowns slightly. She hasn't had to deal with this level of crazy since Blisa was rescued from Ormaz. The mouse looks around -- she knows this helps people who see things. "Hon....if they're dead, whot's t'fear? Please tell me." Jun 6, 2020 at 11:41 p.m.
Sola grips the bat she was using on the rugs as is for a second she looks like she wants to fight back but she can't, even fighting imaginary vermin she's too afraid to do and she slowly puts the bat down instead "They can come back. He died and came back. I think he came back. I wanted him to come back...if they come back..." she's afraid of that idea. Jun 6, 2020 at 11:48 p.m.
Log-A-Log has arrived. Jun 6, 2020 at 11:52 p.m.
Angela has a good idea of what the hare means now. "I doubt they'll come back, hon. If anybeast 'as come back, it's 'cause they had such good hearts, Dark Forest thought they needed to do more work here on Earth. Hellgates doesn't release back those who would hurt others." Jun 6, 2020 at 11:52 p.m.
For the first time since Sola started her crazy ranting her eye turns back to Angela and she looks confused "I...Is...Is that a rule? How do you know?" the crazy hare thankfully accepts crazy reasoning. Jun 6, 2020 at 11:57 p.m.
Angela doesn't actually believe a single word she's saying. But she's dealt with enough crazy beasts to be able to bluff her way through things like this. "Course it is. Wouldn't it be just so unfair f'r villains t'be able to come back, just like good beasts? So Hellgates keeps shut to keep them in, while Dark Forest, on occasion, sends back those who have good hearts to continue their work here amongst th' living. If y'don't believe me, as Martin the Warrior." She only hopes the spirit of Redwall's Hero Founder will back her up if he decides to start speaking to crazy people. Jun 7, 2020 at 12:05 a.m.
Sola starts to frown as she explains further and it begins to poke holes in the logic for Sola "This world isn't fair" if it was she wouldn't be half blind having lost years of her life to slavery "...If the good come back why didn't your warrior?" Jun 7, 2020 at 12:12 a.m.
Angela nods. "Aye, life ain't fair, ye're right. But the afterlife /is/. Remember, the evil cross Hellgate's threshold, while the good live forever by quiet streams in the Dark Forest." She smiles and shakes her head. "Martin didn't come back because his work was done. D'y'know how many lives he saved as a Warrior? Then he founded Redwall, became a Brother of the Order, an' died as an old mouse. And now he comes back as a spirit and speaks to us when Redwall is in danger. His work was done while he was alive, so now he comes back in beast's dreams." Jun 7, 2020 at 12:20 a.m.
Sola frowns again but looks thoughtful "Oh..." she says quietly. It's clear that she has to think about this for a while but she seems calm again. Properly calm. Not just pretending this time "Alright..." she sounds slightly unsure but she's currently accepting it as she quietly thinks while she gets back to work, beating the dust from the rug. Jun 7, 2020 at 12:26 a.m.
Angela relaxes. She always gets a little nervous when she's dealing with crazy people -- she's always concerned she'll say the wrong thing. But this looks like it turned out pretty well. The old Healer stands and hobbles to a different part of the orchard, leaving the haremaid to think through what she said. Jun 7, 2020 at 12:28 a.m.

Krisha is sitting under one of the trees in the orchards looking at some of the pictures she has been given and smiles a little. The harvest is in, even the fruits and vegtbles now as of this morning. The day is sunny and the weatheris slowly starting to be less hot now as Authumn is upon them as there is some colored leafs falling now,not too many yet but a small few. Aug 29, 2020 at 8:09 p.m.
The badger isn't the only one out enjoying the early Fall day. Gracie the gosling is wandering around in the grass, stomping on leaves and grinning at the crackle they make. Her blankie trails behind her, leaves clinging to it as it drags on the ground. She is also clutching a piece of paper that has many colourful scribbles on it. Aug 29, 2020 at 8:25 p.m.
Krisha looks over as the gosling gets closer and waits, she then speaks "Hello Gracie dear....your geting leaves all on your blanket" Aug 29, 2020 at 8:26 p.m.
The gosling looks at her blankie, then picks it up off the ground and toddles over to the badger. "Cans /you/ hewp me get 'em off, Muvver Krisha?" Gracie goes to sit in the Badger Mother's lap, still clutching the drawing close to her. "Why are da weafs fawwing off da trees?" Aug 29, 2020 at 8:33 p.m.
Krisha smiles, she has started talking again, though she still is sad. She picks off the leaves slowly from the blanket as she speaks "Its autumn, colored leafs fall, soon the trees will be bare for winter season, then come spring the leaves grow back." Gracie is still the only dibbun, at times there is a shrew dibbun when the GUOSIM is here. Aug 29, 2020 at 8:36 p.m.
Gracie doesn't mind being the only Dibbun when she's with the Badger Mother, although she's gotten very tired of the extra attention from everyone else. "Ooohh.....why da weafs have to faww? Don't da trees get cowd?" She helps to pick the leaves off her blankie, then suddenly remembers something. "Wookit! I drawed your picture fo' t'day!" She shoves the drawing into the badger's face. It's of some of the trees turning different colours with the badger and the gosling (in crude little kid fashion) holding paw and wingtip underneath them. Aug 29, 2020 at 8:43 p.m.
Krisha smikes "Its a very nice drawing Gracie and...I suppose trees don't get cold, maybe bark protects them I am unsure."She looks at a leaf she twirls in her paw and sighs a little laying it down again. Aug 29, 2020 at 8:46 p.m.
Gracie beams at the compliment and lays the picture down on the part of the badger's lap neither she nor her blankie are on. The goose snuggles closer, watching some leaves flutter down to the ground. "Dey wook kinda wike fwowers on da ground." She points to a big maple leaf that is nearby. Its edges are curled up some, forming a kind of cup. Aug 29, 2020 at 8:51 p.m.
Krisha studies the leaf "Yeah, sort of...."A smile forms" This time of the seasons is..."She stops then clears her throat "Always nice" Aug 29, 2020 at 8:52 p.m.
Gracie wriggles out of the badger's lap, mostly oblivious to the adult's sorrow. Snagging the maple leaf, she brings it back over to the badger, smiling. "It'sso pretty!! I didn't knows weafs couwd turn red!" She twirls it on its stem, then fumbles and drops it. She then gets distracted by another leaf falling on her head! She pauses, then giggles. "The tree gave me a hat!" Aug 29, 2020 at 8:56 p.m.
Krisha smiles, but then frowns as if remembering something. She stands up slowly as she looks around at the falling leaves. Aug 29, 2020 at 8:57 p.m.
This time, Gracie sees the frown. Gathering up her blankie and draping it over the top of her head, the gosling goes to tug on the badger's habit, eyes wide and staring. "Muvver Krisha, what's wrong?? You no wike my hat?" She gets another leaf and puts it on her head, eyes widening even more as she waits for a response. Aug 29, 2020 at 9 p.m.
Krisha nods "I do,I was just thinking is all."She kicks at some leaves and smiles again, she walks over to a novice and quietly speaks to them, they nod and get some others to start putting the leaves in a pile in the orchards. She walks back over and kneels down, a small smile "Sorry I am just still...sad, but I am starting to feel better and you have helped a lot Gracie" Aug 29, 2020 at 9:03 p.m.
Gracie giggles when the badger kicks the leaves, then watches quietly as the grown ups start doing things. When the Badger Mother kneels before her, she blinks a couple times, listening. A shy smile crosses her face. "I /have/??" She goes to hug the badger, still smiling. Aug 29, 2020 at 9:13 p.m.
Krisha nods "Yes."She is smileing and its a real smile. She looks back to the novices and smiles "Thank you" She looks at the pile "There is another thing thats good in Authumn" She goes to jump in the pile of leaves and starts laughing, something she hasn't done since the dibbuns were taken. The novices even laugh a little and will help fix the pile of leaves again. Aug 29, 2020 at 9:18 p.m.
Grinning, Gracie follows the badger over to the pile of leaves, her eyes wide as the adult jumps in. The gosling's grins fades, and she hugs her blankie close. "Wiww I get /stuck/? I'm wittler'n /yous/." She looks nervous by the prospect of jumping in a huge pile of leaves. Aug 29, 2020 at 9:24 p.m.
Krisha smiles "You wont get stuck and I am here to get you back out.I did this as a dibbun too, it Aug 29, 2020 at 9:26 p.m.
Krisha smiles "You wont get stuck and I am here to get you back out.I did this as a dibbun too, it's fun...others have also" Aug 29, 2020 at 9:26 p.m.
Gracie hesitates for a few more moments, then decides to trust the Badger Mother and try it out. She waddles forward and tries to jump, but she doesn't do a very good job and ends up basically just falling and belly-flopping onto the side of the leaf pile. As some of the leaves collapse under her, more fall on top of her, effectively burying the little gosling. She honks in alarm and starts flailing. She's still holding her blanket, too... Aug 29, 2020 at 9:32 p.m.
Krisha gentlely gets her out and smiles "It's ok, some like it and some don't."She smiles still "Still good to get them in pile still, one of the chores this time of the seasons" Aug 29, 2020 at 9:34 p.m.
Once she is rescued from the leaf pile, the gosling just stands there. Gracie has leaves sticking in her downy feathers and on her blanket, all over herself. She blinks up at the badger. "Why some wike it? It scary! An' why da weafs needta be put in piwes? Why can'ts dey jus' stay all over da ground?" Aug 29, 2020 at 9:44 p.m.
Krisha says, "The leaves can be turned into something to help things grow later,also...hmmms"She gets a few "Maybe you can make something pretty with the leaves also, press them onto something and make a picture of sorts" Aug 29, 2020 at 9:46 p.m.
Gracie has to think about this for a few moments, but then a slow smile forms on her face. "Wike wif cway?? Ooh, ooh, or I couwds gwue dem onto paper!!" She looks a little silly, standing there covered in leaves, but her smile at her ideas is lovely. Aug 29, 2020 at 9:57 p.m.
Krisha nods " Paper be good I think,not sure what else" Aug 29, 2020 at 9:59 p.m.
Gracie thinks for a few more moments. "Maybes we couwds sews a tapestry wike Martin da Warrior's, 'cept wif weafs??" She has no idea that that won't work. She starts to brush leaves off of herself, starting with her blanket. Aug 29, 2020 at 10:04 p.m.
Krisha chuckles and lays leaves in a linw of sorts " LEaf necklace " she smiles " crown " Aug 29, 2020 at 10:08 p.m.
Gracie hops up and down, clapping. "Wike wif fwowers!!" She starts laying the leaves out in a line, too, just mimicking the badger, not sure what they're doing, but having a good time doing it, anyway. Aug 29, 2020 at 10:11 p.m.
Krisha smiles" Sort of yes" she has a novice get glue and string. Aug 29, 2020 at 10:20 p.m.
Gracie has gotten distracted with staring at the veins and patterns on a leaf. It's so interesting! "It wooks wike /me/," she states, holding up the leaf, then spreading apart some of the feathers on her wing to show the blood vessels under her pale skin. Aug 29, 2020 at 10:23 p.m.
Krisha says, "just be careful ok...lets can makes a necklce or crown like thuis" She shows her" See?"" Aug 29, 2020 at 10:25 p.m.
Gracie's attention is redirected back to the task at hand. She watches, then tries to imitate the badger. "Wike /dis/??" She doesn't realize it yet, but there's glue on her feathers. And her blanket. Aug 29, 2020 at 10:26 p.m.
Krisha nods" Yes...also we will need to get glue off your feathers and blanket..hmms pomd maybe" Aug 29, 2020 at 10:28 p.m.
Gracie looks at the glue on her feathers. "I wike pwayin' in da pond. Cans it waits, dough? I wantsa keep doin' dis." She continues to use glue to attach the leaves to the string. Aug 29, 2020 at 10:31 p.m.
Krisha smiles " Ok maybe a bath then after this." The badger has even made a string of colored leaves and smiles more than she has in a long time. Aug 29, 2020 at 10:33 p.m.
"Okies.....can we use da soap dat smewws wike wavender? I wike dat one best." Gracie's string of leaves is much messier than the badger's, naturally, but she, too, is smiling a lot. She seems content just being here with the Badger Mother. Aug 29, 2020 at 10:38 p.m.
Krisha chuckles "Sure, this has been has been fun and I have not had fun in a long time" She smiles, she had lost hope of seeing the others ever again, decideing maybe they would never come back and maybe she still believes it but today has truely cheered her as she smiles, laughs and is relaxed and stress free right now. Aug 29, 2020 at 10:50 p.m.
Gracie gasps in horror! "YOU haven't had /fun/in a wong time??!" She goes to feel the badger's forehead with a sticky wingtip. "Are you /sick/?? Do you need /med'cine/??" She leans close and whispers, "Dat's whot Miz /Angewa/ asks when da Dibbuns gets /bored/." Aug 29, 2020 at 10:55 p.m.
Krisha blinks "Huh...odd, and no just been, sad suppose but I am feeling better now and things will be ok, they will...just may take some time" Aug 29, 2020 at 10:56 p.m.
The bells start to ring, and the gosling jumps. "It dinnertime!!" Gracie pauses, looking at the glue on her wings and blanket. "I need to wash my feavvers." She will toddle after the Badger Mother to get the soap and get washed off, then she will lead them to get food! This Dibbun likes mealtime. Aug 29, 2020 at 11 p.m.
